Kodak specifically instructs use of CRV3 non-rechargeable lithium batteries OR Nickel Metal Hydride AA times 2. Ordinary alkaline cells should not be used even on a temporary basis.

From Kodak website I quote part of the warranty description:

"Limited Warranty

Kodak warrants KODAK Digital and Applied Imaging Division digital cameras and accessories (excluding batteries) to be free from malfunctions and defects in both materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase.

Retain the original dated sales receipt. Proof of the date of purchase will be required with any request for warranty repair.
Limited Warranty Coverage

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY WILL BE HONORED ONLY WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION THAT KODAK DIGITAL CAMERAS AND ACCESSORIES WERE PURCHASED.

Kodak will REPAIR or REPLACE KODAK digital cameras and accessories if they fail to function properly during the warranty period, subject to any conditions and/or limitations stated herein. Such repair service will include all labor as well as any necessary adjustments and/or replacement parts. Such repair or replacement is the sole remedy under this warranty. If replacement parts are used in making repairs, these parts may be remanufactured, or may contain remanufactured materials. If it is necessary to replace the entire product, it may be replaced with a remanufactured product.
Limitations

Request for Warranty service will not be accepted without proof of date of purchase, such as a copy of the original dated KODAK digital camera or accessory sales receipt. (Always keep the original for your records.) This warranty does not apply to the battery(s) used in digital cameras or accessories. This warranty does not cover circumstances beyond Kodak’s control, nor problems caused by failure to follow the operating instructions in the KODAK digital cameras and accessories User’s Guides...... "

I have sent my daughter's C340 Camera to the Kodak service agent twice now and they just keep saying that there is no fault. Even though I have tried the recommended batteries (and many other types) they don't last as long as alkaline batteries. At least the alkalines let you take a couple of photos before they die.
I have been checking the review forums and it appears that Kodak don't want to admit that this is a regular fault. I have tested the voltage on the batteries before being installed into the camera and after the camera stops working and although the camera only stays on for less than a minute (with brand new batteries) their voltage has dropped to a point where the camera won't turn on.
Next time I buy a camera (and it won't be a Kodak) I will believe my daughter that the camera is faulty instead of doing what kodak do, blaming the batteries.

Some cameras have been proven to drain the batteries even with the camera turned off!! Others have been found to have a small extension of the spring that closes the battery compartment door which, when the door is closed, completes the circuit and drains the battery fast. I don't know if this applies to your camera, but I think it might be worth checking physically to see if you might have a short circuit upon closing the battery compartment door. Something is obviously very wrong with your Kodak and Kodak acts like they don't care about it.
