Is it mandatory to have a Dock in order to transfer the photos from this camera to a computer ?

I connected the USB cable (supplied with the camera)to the computer and pressed the Share Button on the camera. The system displayed the error message " No Compatible Dock found...".

I don't believe you need the dock---rather it sounds like a software problem. I assume you have a recent Windows 2000 or XP or Vista, and you loaded onto your PC the CD that came with the Kodak?

Oh by the way, did the camera come with a dock?

Not at all.
U just need to connect your cam to the computer using the USB cable and then switch it on (as if you were taking pictures). The computer will recognise it as a new hardware and the camera will appear (like an extra drive) in My Computer.
Then just copy the pictures from the cam onto your computer. Simple, hey? :)
To finish: switch your cam off, disconnect it from your computer and - voila, you have your pics on your computer! :)
Well - that's what I do anyway. :)

Oh, by the way - I didn't get the dock with my cam, only the USB cable (and batteries and recharger) were included in the package.

I loaded the Kodak EasyShare software that came with the camera and when I plug my USB cable in, it brings up EasyShare with various transfer options.

Aga,

I disagree. When you connect the C653 to the computer using the USB cable and then switch it on computer will recognizes it. but does NOT load it up as an extra drive in My Computer. I wish it did, then I could get around EasyShare and use Picassa or something else!

Still do not know if my old camera dock will be OK for a new kodack camera, or not needed at all.
