How can I play the movies through win media player instead of quicktime?

Movies will only play if quicktime is installed. I want to view movies through win media player, which has sound but no video. Is there a certain codec I need to install?

Hi Jer,

According to Microsoft's own support docs, WMP can play .mov files just fine, but only if they're Quicktime file version 2.0 or older. Your Kodak probably uses a newer version of the codec, which would be the problem here. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a codec or plugin to allow WMP to play newer quicktime files.

These can be played in alternative all-in-one (and codec-free) players like VLC and GOM Player, but I gather you don't like having extra programs around, so this might not be the solution you're looking for.

Sorry!

There are many convertors which converts mov files to divx and wmv. The quality is almost the same.

Why can't Nikon record movies compatible with WMP? At least, with WMP, adjustments on contrast and brightness can be made. I really don't understand why an inferior software like Quicktime has to be the mode for Nikon. C'mon guys, I consider your Nikon cameras as the best! But PLEASE, use the best software support.
