Hi Katelyn,
This would be a great starter camera. It's cheap and relatively feature-packed, and Kodaks are well-loved for their user friendliness. The only downside is possibly slightly poor build quality, but when it comes down to it all digital cameras are fragile things. You can check out user reviews both here and at places like Amazon. You'll see that lots of users in positions similar to yours seem to love it.
