I've got this camera, gave it to my son after I upgraded to the Easy Share One. It was a good camera in it's day.
I'm thinking that the ordinary wear and tear of use of the camera is causing the dial to work it's way lose. You could take it in to see what it costs to repair, but it's been around the bend now and it's probably time to upgrade it.
Remember, the rule of thumb is, if it costs north of 50% it's original price to repair, it's time to buy a new camera.
Then, you can tinker with it on your own and see if you can fix it without loosing a camera. After which, you'll have a good backup for the car in case of accident.
