Possible reason and solution for power on failure of Kodak Easyshare DX 4330
(hungerdunger - 9/29/06)After 3 years of good and easy-to-handle experience with my DX4330 it refuses to switch on. But I guess that I found a solution for this problem:
Inside the camera there is a small coin battery ("Kanebo PAS614L"). I found out, that this small battery is a rechargable manganese-lithium battery, also available from Panasonic ("ML614/F9F"), SANYO ("ML614-TZ4") or Dantona ("RLITH-614-2VL"). Like in BIOS-batteries of PCs ageing of such lithium cells leads to failure and (again like in PCs) the device will no more power up. It is obviously neccessary for startup of the entire machine. First sign of the failure as observed in my dx 4330 was that the camera asked for time and date after switching on (just like a PC with an old and empty BIOS-battery does). After setting time and date the camera restarted and asked again for the same, until (after several repeats of the procedure) it no more asked for date and time and also gave no more other signs of life.
After opening the camera I detected the Kanebo-battery and found a source to buy a new one. Now I am still waiting for delivery. As soon as I get it, I will report here, if exchange of a 4-Euro-battery could help...
