My Kodak Z700 easyshare will turn on and then a few seconds later the screen goes black.

The camera is less than a year old, and has not been dropped or exposed to liquid. When I turn the camera on the "welcome" screen will come on and then a few seconds later the screen goes black. The lense doesn't move and none of the other controls ie...menu, review etc. will work.

Do you have an AC adapter for your camera, and if so, can you replicate the problem? It may be an incorrect battery problem (this is what Kodak's interactive troubleshooting states a possible problem).

Further investigation suggests you'll need to contact Kodak for repair options.

That's the best I've been able to glean from Kodak. Perhaps someone else can devine a better answer.

Sounds exactly like a dead battery, or a battery issue anyhow, as James is saying. If the battery isn't dead possibly there is a problem with the battery connections. You can try cleaning them gently with a cotton swab and putting the batteries back in.

Or you can also try a pencil eraser. Just make sure you blow out the residue.
