Great display and ease of use -a good digital choice for anyone.
( - 5/2/05)After many determined years, avoiding pressure to go digital, I decided to try it out.
I researched for 6 months and eventually chose the Kodak 6490.
My reasons -Lithium battery, 10*zoom, large display, ease of use, colour reproduction and downloading to computer-----and of course a good price.
It has exceeded my expectations on all the above.
Several friends now have one, after seeing my results -even another die-hard 35 mm Canon man!
Drawbacks -- I soon realized that the camera needed a 256 memory -which has proven a good move.
I have now purchased a second battery and a second 256 memory card. Most useful when on holiday for taking hundreds of pictures.
When I used my Canon I was always aware of the cost of producing the hard copy pictures. However with my digital camera, I have so much fun editing the pictures on my computer and no worries about how many pictures I take.
Another slight drawback is the small menu selection wheel which is a bit 'fiddly'.
However, I would definitely recommend the camera to anyone who wants a good reliable and easy to use digital camera.
Most fun, is producing the cd's and watching with friends when I put them on the tv. So much easier to put each event on a cd and much easier to store. Would be useful to get advice on the best quality long- term cd to purchase - for posterity pictures.
Fairer evaluation would be good to excellent (for my requirements) -but you don't have this category.
Hope this helps others make up their mind.
