resurrected from the black screen of death
(Lance - 9/9/06)Eureka!!! I cured my LS443 from the grave. Since it was worth nothing at this point, I decided to take her apart and see if perhaps there was something I could do to reset it. After removing the front, back, battery door, memory door and forcing the insides out of the inner chasis, I inserted the battery (had to hold it in at this point) and powered on the camera and voila — it works.
What exactly fixed it, I do not know. I tried inserting the battery a couple times during this process with no success, so I guess a full removal may be the cure.
As it is working fine right now, I do not hold my breath on this. I do have to thank KODAK though, for if it weren't for this camera, I would not have replaced it with a superior camera (Canon SD630, love it!!).
Good luck to any and all who may try this as well.
Oh yeah, and keep track of what tiny screw goes where (there's different sized ones). I have 3 left over.
