Kodak DX 6490 auto focus quit working

kodak wants a fortune to fix it. I did drop it, but only a short drop, and it was in a good case. But now the auto focus won't work. I love and miss this camera, and paid a fortune for it! But hubby won't spend that much to have it fixed by kodak. Don't blame him. We used it for about 3 years and were very happy with it. I have 3 grandbabies...this is torture, lol.

I'm not sure if this is a question, but there really is no way around fixing the auto-focus. A dropped camera is a dropped camera; most of them are not made to be dropped even short distances because the parts within them are small and fragile. You can probably find this camera on ebay for less than $50, probably about $20, since it was made 5 years ago. In my opinion you're much better off just spending some extra money and getting a camera made a year ago, costing about $100.

I'm sorry...yes, it was a question. I am surprised that you can buy these on ebay that cheap, I will certainly check into that. I did look at newer cameras, but they weren't 100 dollars. I don't know if you are familiar with this model of camera, but it has a 10x optical zoom, and lots of features, whistles, and bells...so to replace it is around 250 to 300 dollars. So I think ebay would be the way to go then. But in the meantime, if anyone knows how I can fix, or get the auto focus fixed, that would be wonderful! Thanks for your suggestions....Janet

Aditya is right. I'd be going eBay on this. but the fact is, for just a little more money, you can buy a brand new camera that has 6mp or above which will give you much sharper pictures and enlargements up to 11x14. You don't want to fall for the more mp is better myth, mind you. But 6mp is the "sweet spot" for sharp images and bold colors without adding noise to the image in low light.

Thanks! You know, I had always wondered where the "sweet spot" was, as far as mp's. I think both of the answers to my questions were good...I clicked on "helpful" but can't tell if it marked it or not. Sorry...I'm a newby here.

Wow....I did read the article, and am glad to have learned that! Now, if/when I do shop for a new camera, you will have helped me a lot. Thanks! :) It did seem to me that they were going overboard, and focusing (no pun intended) too much on mp's, and not enough on improving picture imagequality and optical zoom. So...now I know the rest of the story.
