Above answer (Haan) does not apply. Zoom (questioned) and focus (nature of reply) are not the same thing.
The answer: No, there is no power zoom on this camera. The zoom is manual, which allows for very precise fine tuning of the scene. It is also a great saver of battery power. The zoom ring moves smoothly, however persons with large fingers might find the space between the grip and the lens a bit small for easy manipulation at the wide end.
The extra digital zoom (1.4 and 2.0) is activated by a button on the top left-hand side of the camera.
The fact that the zoom is manual is a plus for users who have previous used SLR film cameras, and who are more comfortable with the physical action of lens composition, rather than an automatic action performed by the camera itself.
One should also note that the P880 also has a manual focus ring on the lens. This is quite apart from the zoom, and the two should not be mistaken for each other.
