Bluring the background?

I would like to know how to blur the background on portraits using the P880

For example, how can I have the subject appear crisp, with a soft, blurred background? I would typically be doing this indoors in natural light.

Thank you so much.

To blur the background, you have to open the aperture as wide as possible.
This you do by turning the mode dial to ' A ', meaning aperture, and set the aperure to ,say 2.8 for a start. The camera will set the speed accordingly.

In very bright locations, you may need to set the aperture to a higher figure so that the camera would not set the ISO so high that noise comes into play.

The principal is big aperture decreases the depth of field, and the background will be blur because it is out of focus.
