Why is the picture so dark?

When taking pictures in a room with very low light, I can't see the picture, it's very dark. I'm pretty sure I have the flash on, what else can I be doing wrong?

If you're still having trouble, try going into the Setup menu and doing a Reset. This will restore the 'factory' settings and fix anything that might have inadvertently been changed that might be causing this. Also make sure the dial on the top of the camera is turned to the right position- if you have it on Landscape or something, it might be metering the situation totally different and thus resulting in the wrong exposures. Set it to A (Auto) and see how it does.

If you are in a light or dark room and want to get pictures of things you can use the directional pad left or right to brighten or darken the picture, or turn the flash off and use a tripod.
