It's possible that your batteries didn't go out the first time, but rather the camera short circuited, making it look like the batteries went out. To find out if this is the case, get an AC adapter, or in the case of the Kodak, the docking station, and plug the camera into that. If the camera still doesn't get power, then its a problem with something in the camera short circuiting. If the camera does get power, it could be a problem with the battery leads in the camera. But, I'm fairly certain the Kodak comes with a 1 year warranty, and this sounds like something that should be covered, so I think you'll be fine no matter the outcome.

Thanks a bunch. I think is has short-circuit too. I have tried different batteries. The camera hasn't been used that much. It hasn't been dropped or gotten wet.
It seems to be the only possibilty.
Thanks again
Tracy

Same problem with Kodak c340. Kodak has problems with this for some time, doesnt appear they will address or fix it. I assume it is to keep their market alive for new products. Poor Camera Quality

Thanks. You are exactly right. I sent it in for repairs and the company said it showed severe corrosion and could not be fixed. I cannot imagine how the severe corrosion came about when I have only had it for 6 months and have been very careful with it. I received it back after paying $12.95 for shipping and it was not sent back in the shape I mailed it in. I am very disappointed with this product and the sad attempt at a 15% discount they wanted to offer.

I bought the z1285 in April and i am having the same problem. The camera turns off with the lens out, won't turn on. Sent it in for repairs twice already and the last time it actually worked for a week. This is the 3rd time it happened, i have asked for a new camera and am hoping kodak does the right thing. I am completlydisappointed with kodak and precision camera; the company who supposedly fixed it.

I had the same problem with the same camera. SOLUTION! I was searching for an answer of something to do. I read to TAP the camera on the side...and try to turn it on again. It worked. A gentlemen had this posted on another website, and some others said they did the same thing. I just did it 3 minutes ago, and my lens went in, and the darn thing turned on and stayed on. WHAT IN THE WORLD is that about. This should be recalled. How long will this work i wonder!

This is a shame..I am having the exact same problem and I am online with tech support now. I read this and tapped the camera on the side and it works!! I agree there should be a recall!

Good Luck with Kodak Tech Support. The only things they seem to know is "It must be the batteries, it must be the batteries, or it may be the batteries." "If it isn't, then you need to send it in for an $80 eval and "repair". I suspect they have a machine that simply taps the camera on the side until it works again and then ship it back. I have two and that is the only thing that will help. I would be happy if they could just say it in some version of English.

Yes, hitting my camera on the right side while turning it on makes it work. It is a huge pain.

Tapping the Rt side of the camera actually worked for me, as the camera would stay on for 5 seconds with the lens extended and turn off, this is absolutely amazing, saved me alot tech support

Ok I know this might sound stupid but have you tried the batteries the other way round . When I first bought this camera the yellow + and - sticker was either printed wrong or printed for a diff kodak camera as mine does not correspond to the way the batteries actually fit into the camera. It is the wrong way round. Maybe this is why some cameras are shorting out and not working
