I just bought the Z612. I also purchased a 2.0 GB PNY SD card for it. I have a HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop that has a built in card reader. When I put

When I put my card in the slot and then go to my computer I can see the card there, but when I click on it and tells me it needs to be formatted. I have tried to format but then I get a msg that says windows can't format. I am running Windows XP, laptop is only a year old. The camera I had before used an XD card and it worked fine in the reader. Any help would be much appreciated!

When there is a card reading problem, even though the message says ' the card needs to be formatted', do not do it otherwise the data will be lost.

HP Pavillion dc4000 comes with a 6-in-1 card reader. It should read your SD card unless over the one year period, one or more pins of the unused SDcard slot has become dirty and data flow is affected.

One way out is to get a new SD card reader which sells at $5-$10 each, and plug it to the USB port, although a few times of inserting and removing the card to the built-in card reader may also solve the problem in some cases.

I assume that you have been able to 'read' the photos on the camera. If not, then maybe the card is NOT formatted, and thus you might need to put it back in the camera, and format it on the camera.

I bought an external USB SD reader and it's working fine. I would still like for the built-in reader to work, but it doesn't look like it's going to. Thanks for your response!

I just purchased the camera and put in a 1 gig card I've used before. After taking some pics the Dell 1505 doesn't read the card. The pics transfer ok, but I don't like the idea of having to get another card reader.

I have a z612 and two 2gb sd cards my laptop's inbuilt 6in1 card reader won't recognise them at all however my dads got a usb digital drive so I put the SD card in that and plugged it into my laptops usb port and then it reads the card fine.
