How long should it take to format a 2GB SD card?

I may have had a bad SD card when I tried to format it....got another one and haven't tried yet to format it. How long should it take to format it on a Z612?

Charlie,

If it takes more than a few minutes, I would say there is a problem with the camera.

A "few minutes"...do you mean 1, 2, 3? Maybe I didn't wait long enough with the first SD Card I had and that is what caused it to be "corrupted".
I'm hesitant to try and format the new one now.
What exactly is the procedure to put a SD card in and format it? Do I even HAVE to format a new SD card? I've never had a camera that had it's own internal storage and SD cards...and IMO the user manual that comes with the Z612 isn't clear on a lot of stuff.

You shouldn't have to format a new card. It should be ready to go out of the box. Do you have a reader that you can test the card on with your computer? If you can use it like a disk or extra drive on your computer, then it should be fine. As for the minutes, it depends on how big the card is. If it takes more than 2-3, there is something wrong.
