My problem with the Z612 is when I remove my rechargeable battery, and replace it with a charged one, the camera loses date and time. I cannot use the

The Z612 will not operate after removal and replacement of a fresh battery until I either enter the date and time, or cancel same. I've had the camera 1 and a half years and this condition started approx. 3 mo. ago. Kodak tells me if I send it to them and pay $145 they might fix it. I paid under $ 300 for it originally and don't want to pay that much for them to replace an internal battery, which is their answer to this.

Typically this problem is due to an internal battery failure. At least it's not inherent in the camera design as was the case for my Minolta F100. I put up with that one for 3 years and I was doing really good to get 15 pictures out of a set of fully charged batteries!
Have you tried to find a local photo repair shop that would tackle the job for less? Or perhaps an online repair shop other than Kodak (I know that's risky, but you could check them out first).
