Does anyone have problems with the z612's pop-up flash failing to click closed?

I was using my Koday EasyShare z612 to take some shots indoors today, and then tried out the video capture. Everything went smoothly, files transferred to my PC and no quality issues, but now that I'm finished with the camera, I can't get the automatic, pop-up flash to click closed. Any suggestions?

That's strange. I suppose the first thing I would do is reset the camera to factory defaults (there should be an option for this under the Setup menu). It probably won't help, but if there's a 'crossed wire' somewhere causing the flash to stick then this should fix it.

Once the flash has opened up, you need to press the pop-up flash down manually. It doesnt close automatically and there's no separate click button on camera.

I ran into the same thing yesterday not long after using it for the first time. I didn't try Brenda's technique yet, but what I did do was open the battery compartment, slip the battery away from the contacts, and then slip it back in. I was then able to close the flash manually. A bother, to say the least, but it gets the job done if you're in a pinch!

The next time this happens, push the flash down and slide your finger away so the flash springs open with a snap. That should reset the latching mechanism.

Mine does the same. It has nothing to do with taking video. I have to slide my pinky into the flash opening to wiggle the latch to get it back. I will give the above "spring" method a try. If it doesn't work, I will have to return the thing.

First I want to say that the Kodak Z612 is the most under-rated long zoom in its class. The Kodak Z612 can produce some truly outstanding pics. However I have had the same problem since I bought it. To get the flash to shut and stay down I kind of slam it down quickly with a finger and it will stay shut.

There is a little latch in the back right (when looking in) that I have to pull back with a small screwdriver in order for it to stay closed. Other than doing this, nothing else works. Too bad, I love this little camera.
