how about using rechargeable nimh AA batteries sold by kodak. Some people say that this camera doesn't accept them?

I cannot find klic-8000 for my kodak z712 in my city in India. I am planning to buy rechargeable AA NIMH 2100 batteries by Kodak company, which are available. My only fear is some say that z712 doesn't accept them. Is it true? If not true, is using rechargeable AA a good bet?

I recently chatted with a kodak specialist about this issue and he recommends changing your batteries to NiMh rechargeable batteries. These are the batteries that the camera is designed to use and using other types - like alkalines, can often cause the lens error to occur. If that doesn't work, then the camera indeed does need repair.

Rechargeable Ni-MH Batteries (AA Size): These Ni-MH AA batteries last up to twice as long as alkaline batteries when used in your Digital Camera - and you can recharge them up to 1000 times in our rapid charger.

Oxy-Alkaline Digital Camera Battery (AA Size).

CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery designed specifically for today's feature-rich cameras. This battery is the obvious choice for speed performance, and long life. It delivers faster flash recycle times and lasts up to 10% longer than our previous design!

Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack: Provides exceptional capacity with its 2.5 hour fast charge cycle time; can be recharged up to 1000 times in the EasyShare Camera Dock or EasyShare Rapid Charger.

thanks, james but the problem is AA nimh in z712 aren't supposed to last beyond 10-15 photos. That's what the user experience suggests on this blog. There are certain klic-8000 replacement batteries available on ebay. Is it worth having them as proper alternative to original klic8000 supplied by kodak. Kodak batteries and charger are pretty expensive.
Thanks anyway for the anwser once again. My doubt has been cleared.

I thought the AA nimh batteries weren't to be used in this camera. I thought they would damage it.

That's not what Kodak says. But it would be wise to verify it before buying it.

well, James, you'd better check it out with Kodak. going by users' opinions, what i gathered is NIMH AA batteries don't work with this camera. One user suggested that even KLIC-8000 doesn't suit this camera, because most of them are third party batteries, hence don't fit properly into the slot.
I wonder why the hell Kodak messed with as simple an issue as battery mechanism. Is this the reason they are losing out to the competition?

Agreed. Kodak is going through a bad patch of designs, that's for sure. But I recently tested the Z1085IS and it gives hope that they could be coming back.

To be fair, Kodak did not ' mess with as simple an issue as battery mechanism '.

if you use Kodak battery, be it CRV3 or KLIC-8000, it works, and even Shuja admits KLIC 8000 gives him 200 or more pictures per charge in Question 23722, unless they are two different persons.

For those who are interested, Kodak did not make the cameras. Chinon, a Japanese Camera Company , did and label the cameras under Kodak. Subsequently Kodak bought over Chinon. See this report and and this report.

DCHQ can only rightly claim to be unbiased if comments, feedbacks and discussions can be filtered to cut out all strong words , sometimes made without due care and considerations.
