Sure There's Better, But...
(Bree - 12/28/08)I got it at Black Friday and I love it. It was an upgrade for me. Before I had a Kodak EasyShare CX7430. I liked it but I wasn't crazy about my pictures which I'm guessing is the viewfinder. With the zd8612, I have been taking awesome pictures since I purchased it. I actually returned it and ordered the Walmart online special with bag and 4gig card. :)
The lens cap for me stays on and I'm rough with my camera...it lives in the diaper bag b/c the diaper bag is always with me. It is light weight which I like alot. I don't know about 'plasticy feeling' though.
For the money, it's a good deal. However, I hear the Canon SureShot (think that's the name) is a good deal. So you might want to compare.
I'm a mommy of two beautiful girls (2yrs and 3mos) and I snap pictures everyday just about. I don't regret my purchase. And will have this camera for a few years. I'm sure I'll upgrade in a few years as I do with most of my electronics. Technology is always advancing...so if you are not a professional photographer but like nice pictures and you don't need to spend or can't afford to spend alot...I recommend. :)
