I bought ZD8612 IS. The manual says AA alkalines are NOT compatible. Besides Kodak batteries and AA lithium, is there any other battery choice?

I am looking for a long term, convenient and economic battery choice. Thanks.

From what I've heard, the rechargeable NiMH AAs (which would have been my recommendation) won't work either. Supposedly all you can use are the lithiums/ Kodak ones. This isn't because alkaline or NiMH AAs are not compatible, but because they are used up within minutes, even the high capacity ones. It's a problem of a huge battery draw from the camera, it eats power very quickly.

I can't see why this small camera eats batteries so quickly. Many larger cameras with larger LCDs use AA alkalines. I bought this camera from Walmart for $129 with a Kodak bag and a 4GB SD card. I thought the price could not be beaten. But now I have to pay the price in batteries. American companies just can't make good products. Soon Kodak will be like GM and Chrysler. Anyway I give the five points to the only reply.

I agree, thought it was a great deal on the camera at $129, but have spent over $90 for rechargeable batteries and a charger. The battery that came with the camera lasted only about 15 pictures. Wal-Mart does not carry the rechargeable batteries or the charger for this camera. Was forced to purchase from Kodak online. Guess its ok if you want to wait several weeks for the accessories to be shipped. Dont buy this camera if you need one right away.

Well I bought a Kodak Camera thinking for the price it was a good deal -I mean its got all the features of a SLR and it puts out a reasonable piture. However the BIG -Big let down is it eats batteries like they are going out of fashion.I really could not understand how Kodak could put out a reasonable constructed Camera out to the public and not get the power supply sort out--- its what lets this good camera down! If only some one in Kodak could read this and find an answer- to this problem. And some poor souls have had to lash out spending another $90 to for rechangeable batteries and a changer that nearly the price of another camera! What kodak has to do is get this sorted out-- people will buy Kodak but it must be value for Money--------not have batteries cost you more in the long run for Batteries! Oh-- I took my camera back to the store I bought it at( Explained problem) they were nice enough and gave me a store refund sorry kodak you have let us down!

I have been using the supplied battery for several days. I have used flash and not. I have save about 40 pictures and taken over 100 just messing around with. I have not yet gone throught the special battery the camera came with. I did buy the recharger and rechargeable battery from Wal-Mart when I got the camera and have not had to use it yet. I also got rechargeable batteries and charged them from Batteryheads.com and have not needed to use them yet so I am not sure how good they are. I have heard a lot about batteyr use but have not yet experienced the 15 picture drain and I am afraid that my rechargeables may drain before I go on a photo excursion to truly test the camera.
