Can I charge the battery by plugging DC power directly into the camera? If so what is the voltage and who sells the DC adapter?

I'd stick with the recommended Kodak adapter. Third party adapters may save you a little, but they are often one size fits all with a slide to choose the correct setting. You miss that and you brick your camera. Stick with the Kodak model.

The Kodak adapter is 3 volts, the Klic8000 battery is 3,7 volts and the separate charger unit for that battery is 4,2 volts and does not fit the camera. The idea is to be able to charge the Klic8000 battery while still in the camera. I have a 5volt Nokia charger that fits but I think I will fry the camera if I plug it in. The question is if someone have tried it? My guess is that the Kodak adapter is for running the camera and not for charging the Klic8000 but the info is limited on thst subject.

Well, that's because what you need is the K8500 charger, charges in three hours or less.
