Good for the price and not as bad as some think.
(Dave - 8/3/09)I used to use a 35mm film camera and had three lenses. I took hundreds of pictures. Then digital came out so I moved with the times. At first I had a small point and shoot but I missed doing the shots that I could take with my 35mm. However I did not want to dive in really deep with the cost. I wanted to stay under $500. For a decent DSLR with lenses was going to cost me much more than that. I then saw a sale at Costco for this camera for $300. This gave me the features I was looking for. Is it the best camera...no but it does what I want. Does it have it's flaws...sure. I have taken shots indoors, outdoors, long telephoto, Macro, Super Macro, Sunset and I finally got a decent picture of the Moon. I could never get a decent picture of the moon with my 35 mm because my telephoto only went to 218mm. With this 24x zoom (624mm equivalent) and 12 mp, I finally got one. So bottom line, I like what I got for the price I paid. Would I have loved a better DSLR...of course but I did not shell out a $1,000 either.
