I have the Z1012 and a Canon Rebel XSi -help

I have the Z1012 and a Canon Rebel XSi - I am very new to photography and was wondering what camera would be best to take on an Alaskan cruise to shoot sea life and scenery from the ship? I have two lenses with the canon - 55-250 and 18-55mm. Not sure how that equates in zoom times - can anyone explain it to me ? Is it as good as this 24x zoom Kodak?

The two aren't even comparable. Canon DSLR with those two lenses will always trump the glass on a point and shoot with a fixed zoom. And with the sort of once in a lifetime shots you're going to want to get on that Alaskan cruise, I wouldn't rely on a Kodak considering that they've had a bad run of cameras the last few years.

Take your XSi. I shot with one last year and loved it.

Don't touch Kodak Z980. I have returned it only three weeks after I bought it. It has serious problems in image quality and performance, i.e. shutter lag. Besides the design and build qualities are not good. DSLRs are always better than point-and-shoots, not to mention that the Canon XSi is a top rated DSLR. But in your case you are obvious concerned about the zoom range. It is ideal to have just one zoom lens because changing lenses is not what you want to do when shooting sceneries and people at the same time. So the best would be to use the Canon 18-200mm zoom lens that cover both the short and long ends.
