Z1012 and Canon Rebel XS-i AGAIN !

Me again - sorry for being so STUPID about this. Just want to be sure everyone understands that I cannot leave the cruise ship in Alaska due to health reasons but I want to capture whales and other sealife and whatever scenery on land I can . I know nothing about photography but some recommended the Rebel XSi and I got it with the two lenses. Does everyone agree that the Rebel will do the job better than the Kodak Z1012.? Do I just juse the auto setting on the Rebel?

FAR better. Yes, it will shoot on auto, Jany. But you can also play with some of the manual or other features like aperture priority (where you set the size of your aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed) or shutter priority (the opposite of aperture priority). There's also some program settings to use as well.

I'd also do yourself a favor and read up on some tips on shooting photography in Alaska before you go. It'll help you make all the difference. And keep in mind the "rule of thirds." This is where you imagine a tic-tac toe grid on your viewfinder and place your subject anywhere two lines intersect. This makes your images a lot more dramatic as you compose your photographs.

Enjoy it!
