Work at it - and its great!
( - 5/2/05)I read good reviews of this camera on-line and in magazines before buying. I've now used it in a variety of situations, including a trip to Paris where I wanted to photograph everything! My conclusion? Be patient, overlook a couple of niggles, and the image quality will more than satisfy.
The mechanical zoom lens and manual focus are excellent and the creative control is very rewarding. I have not been frustrated by the caveats in some reviews about slowness of response - although I don't take 'action' shots. I found the EVF fine and clear.
I've been very impressed by image quality, quite apart from RAW images I've worked on with the excellent Raw Shooter. Little or no purple fringing, and printing out even cropped images to A3 on an HP CP1700 has produced very pleasing results. The comments about the autofocus hitting the wrong spot I can understand, but I've found it very easy to engage the flex focus control which allows you to put the focus where you want.
Niggles? The digital zoom buttons are badly placed and all too easily activated by mistake, and I wish there was a cord on the lens cap - it doesn't fit easily and could be all too easily lost.
Overall I've been delighted with this camera, and it's one I'm going to be using for a long time to come. Thoroughly recommended!
