Minolta A200 - Great for travelers
( - 4/25/05)I bought the camera a couple of weeks before a trip to Thailand and Cambodia. I took a couple of 512mg CF memory cards and a spare battery and of course the charger and a voltage transformer/adapter. The camera took great pics although I'm a real beginner at digital photography. The telephoto zoom lens and the image stabilizer feature came in real handy many times. The stabilizer allowed clear pics from a speeding, bouncing river boat, a swaying suspension foot bridge, while on an elephant ride and when bumping along on an unpaved road in an SUV in the mountains near Chiang Mai. The only feature that did not work too well was the nite/low lite setting, if the subject was moving the pic got blurry but I guess this was to be expected so I'm ok with that. Still subjects came out ok in the low lite setting (flash was not appropriate under the circumstances), btw the flash works great. I took about 825 pics and they easily fit on a single card at moderate resolution. Menu is very easy to navigate, the camera is light and compact, ideal for travelers although I also took along a pocket camera.
I highly recommend the A200, it's got enough bells and whistles and yet is easy to use.
