dead batteries

My recharged batteries went dead within seconds of turning the camera on. I bought new ones, same result.

As Konica/Minolta is out of the camera business now, and this camera is well out of it's warranty, your only resort is to send it in to SONY for a repair estimate. Sony has the repair contract for all Konica/Minolta camera products.

Be advised, however, that since it's out of warranty, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

But since this camera is pushing 4 years old now, perhaps it's time to do just that.

Thank you so much for your reply. We were thinking of buying a new camera but I wanted to make sure it wasn't some little thing I could jiggle and make it okay. Now we are going shopping!!!

Well, it may very well be, then then you'll jiggle it again and the short will persist and you're back to square one. The camera is 4 years old, so I'd say it's time for an upgrade. You'll get much better resolution now, and probably better focal length on the optical zoom.
