My Minolta DiMAGE X20 screen will not work in picture mode, it just shows black/white lines!

When I turn on the camera the LCD screen is completely black, but if you point it at light it sometimes shows white lines too. When I go into the menus or playback mode the screen works fine and shows full color/picture. This happened before, but it just worked again a few weeks later.

You could try resetting the camera. But it sounds to me like your CCD chip or LCD screen is failing or has finally given up the ghost. Since the camera is 4 years old, it wouldn't surprise me.

Minolta is out of the digital camera business now. SONY, however, has taken over repair and support for Minolta brand cameras. Recommend you contact them for an estimate. Rule of thumb is that if it costs 50% or more of the sale price to fix it. And considering the age of the camera, you're much better off getting a new one that will give you more bang for the buck.

Thanks alot! I actually found out about a class action lawsuit against Knoica Minolta because of the defect in these cameras. They used a faulty CCD chip, which would explain it. For anyone else who reads this and is having problems with any of the DiMAGE models that resemble this problem, Sony is required to fix your camera for free, including free shipping, no matter how long it has been out of warranty (It is possible they will just replace your camera as well). They are only doing this until March 2008, so make sure you get on it! here is the website you need to go to in order to receive support:

Once again, Thanks James!
