Great all-around machine!
( - 8/11/05)I used the Xg as my "always there" camera while writing travel articles for a regional newspaper, and am using it for environmental articles, etc., for a regional environmental magazine. I also use a Canon G2, and Canon ZR50MC, but they are like Olympic weights compared to the DiMage Xt, which fits so nicely on my belt. It pays to be careful with the case, though. I used the Minolta leather case with the Xt, which was why it so often fell on the pavement. The clip would let go and down she'd fall. Get a ballistic cloth case with a belt loop sewn on. The Xg has been quite secure with that.
I find that the quality of photo I get is excellent, the quality of movie adequate for insertion into a ZR50 larger work, but not what I would want for a full length movie. The Xg is a much more limited movie camera than the Canon. But it is great for those unexpected short segments that we'd never have, otherwise. And, the Xg makes a great sound recorder. It has been much more reliable, and has much better fidelity, than any cassette recorder I've used, and at least one other, dedicated, digital recorder that I have used. Large memory cards (512 MB) make it possible to record a typical civic meeting, and it has been better as a telephone interview transcriber (just by being in the room and recording) than a connected telephone cassette recorder.
So, yes, I love the little machines, and no, I am not employed by Konica/Minolta, or any camera dealers, in any capacity.
