My Xt is completely locked up can anyone suggest a solution???

The only way I can get any life out of it is switching it on when in the set up mode. Switch to any of the other modes just locks it completely any I'm unable to even switch it off with taking out the battery!!

Sadly, Konica/Minolta is out of the camera business, leaving SONY to pick up the support slack. You could see if there's a firmware update for it at Sony's site, but that is highly unlikely considering the age the camera.

I'm thinking you should be looking for a new model camera.

Do try leaving the battery out for about twenty minutes before popping it back in and trying to turn it on. Once you do have it on, try going into the Setup menu and doing a Factory Restore/ Restore to Defaults. If that doesn't help, I think James is right and it's likely a problem due to firmware or something similar that isn't going to be worth the investment and trouble to fix.
