What camera grip works with a Olympus Stylus 1000 so I can hold it better, steadier, and not worry about dropping it?

I am used to a camera where I held it by a grip and shot pictures and did everything with my thumb (right handed). I also tend to take photos in the cold and keep a thin glove on, frequently while hiking. Fumbling with the little camera without a grip means it wants to slip out of my hands...or squirm away, right as I'm trying to take a shot. Plus I can't carry it with it "on" without a grip as I'm liable to put my fingers right into/on the lense.

Michael,

As far as I know, companies don't usually make grips for non-SLR cameras that don't already have them. All I can suggest is adding some grip tape (like the kind skateboarders put on their boards) or perhaps some foam padding. If someone else knows more about this than I do, please comment, but I'm fairly certain this isn't the kind of thing you can just buy. Here's hoping I'm wrong. :)

Unless you want to add an external flash with a wrap-around grip, I don't really see any way to improve this. Olympus makes battery grips that help but not for this camera. I can't think of anything else that would work. Which is frustrating since this camera seems to be really difficult to hold tightly- the reviews all seem to mention that.

Thanks! I'm coming to the same conclusion. I began looking at external flashes last night specifically for this reason. Any suggestions, and then what kind of a case would I need to hold the larger contraption???

Hi Michael,
The only flash I can think of that includes a grip for this camera is the Sunpak kit... you can view it here. Oddly I have not seen this unit anywhere but on Ebay, but I know that Sunpak is a reputable manufacturer of external flashes etc. so I am assuming you could find something like this at a camera retailer. I can't vouch for this particular piece of equipment, having never used it, but at least it gives you a starting point.

For size/ a carrying case, scroll all the way to the bottom of that auction and it gives you complete specs (including measurements) of this flash unit, which should help should you decide to purchase one and want to plan ahead- or if you just want to see if it meets your needs.
Hope that helps!
