how do I replace the internal battery, used to store the date, myself??

Each time I turn the camera on, the date needs settting. Page 143 of the Manual states that this battery has ot be replaced by a KM repair facility. The cos of that is $280!! Can this be done any other way ???

$280 seems expensive. The internal cell is not a straightforward replcement job for a DIYer. I would steer well clear of opening up your 7D unless you have the tools and experience. This said, the cell should not have failed on a cameras which is less, I guess, than two years old, these things normally go on for 7-10 years with no problem. The one on my 7000 is still working away after eleven years.

I would have a word with the US repair agents (Precision Camera) and ask their fixed price to replace the cell. There are plently of independents in the UK (I'm in London) who undertake this kind of work I am sure that if you post this question again on one of the busier Minolta forums someone in the US will be able to steer you towards a local repairer.

Although I have no answers, I am having the same problem. I will try to contact the manufacturer as this seems to be a product defect.
