Just an okay camera

This was my first digital camera and at first I was satisfied with its performance and it was very easy to use. I have taken a lot of outdoor shots that are beautiful and I have absolutely no complaints about them. However, in pictures that I make indoors, they tend to be dark and grainy if I'm too far away from the subject. If I move closer, I get pictures of people with glaring red eyes, and this is with the red eye reduction setting turned on. I know people with different brands of cameras who have minimal problems with this, but it has become a major problem for me.
