Sounds like a battery problem. If the camera uses a Lithium-ion cell, then that might be worn out. I see this camera was first sold in 2003, so it could be as old as 4 years. Naturally, if it uses rechargeable AA's, same problem with wearing out.
Li-Ion cells wear out in about three years, EVEN IF they haven't been used very often. There are many places to buy replacement cells. I like http://www.thomas-distributing.com but there are others.
