my coolpix 3700 keeps coming up with lens error what do I do?

I have my camera for about 18 months, I went to use it but the lens won't zoom out when I switch it on and it just says lens error in the display. What do I do? is it a setting it is on or is is damaged?

Often this happens with underpowered batteries. Sometimes it's a just light jam of the lens assembly. Try high capacity batteries like VARTA, which are designed for digital cameras. Then, when you turn it on, gently push against it with your palm ... GENTLY, and see if you can get the lens to retract.

Then turn it on and try again. With high capacity batteries, you should have better luck.
