Fragile, problematic, lets you down, finally dead. Never Coolpix again!
(MM - 10/18/06)Frankly a Nikon Coolpix 4300 has some good features such as video, black and white shots, Li-Ion battery, aperture and shutter priority and some more.
We have had the camera for less than 15 months. Being so fragile a battery cover that it broke two times and needed replacement. While waiting for the cover delivery the camera was unusable since the cover holds a battery in place. Both cases were inside warranty period which is only 12 months. Too short in my opinion for such a brand! First time I had to pay. Second time it was free of charge but in black although the camera is silver one. A month later I got silver one.
Now the flash-light doesn't work due to high voltage circuit failure. The local company authorized to repair it first wanted to replace high voltage board. Later they wanted to replace another board meaning 2 out of 3 boards supposed to be inside camera. All for more money than the price of the new Coolpix L6. After being serviced the camera is completely disfunctional although we have brought it for repair with a day-light functionalities OK. Now the lens will not extend or retract and we got a system error message as if the lens cover is not removed. It's completely dead.
My daughter who got it as a birthday present and me too are very disappointed. I am not going to buy a Nikon camera anymore. After all the Coolpix 4300 is a very poor camera. It was really waste of money. And I will not buy any camera having warranty period less than 36 months if such exists at all.
Now I consider Panasonic Lumix TZ1 having 10x optical zoom and attractive design as if it is SLR. I wonder if someone had some bad experience with this one since I plan to buy it soon as replacement for our dead 4300.
