too complicated
( - 1/17/06)I am quite experienced with digicams, having owned them since 1996 when I got my Casio 700. Then I went to Coolpix line in 1999 with the CP900 2MP which I stole for $949 on line. This CP 5400 is great if you don't mind the usual issues of poor low-light autofocus and such, which all digicams have problems with, AND if you have 10's of hours to spend studying (not just reading) the manual-textbook. You have to spend lots of time practicing, learning and mastering the highly complex workings of this camera to get decent pics in adverse lighting conditions. You will be disappointed, as was I, if what you really need is a P & S like most of us do 95% of the time. I tried for 2 years to understand the multiple dials and A, P, M settings, but just couldn't get them to work, and often had blurry, crappy photos that had to be deleted. When I nailed it, though, results were astounding. It is a bit heavy and large to carry with you at all times like I do.
I'm a surgeon and an engineer, so I hope my failure wasn't because I'm not smart enough, but that is what it seems like. I'm getting a simple P & S that is lighter. I may miss the ability to get the occasional stunning family photo, but I may get a D200 or something like that later.
