Editors' Comments

The versatile Nikon Coolpix 5400 brings a wide-angle lens to the popular 5-megapixel advanced camera category. While the 5400's feature set is similar to the Canon G5 and other advanced cameras, its wide-angle lens (the 35mm film equivalent of 28-116mm) sets it apart from the crowd. This wider field of view will likely appeal to landscape photographers... read more

Among the best of the full-featured 5 Megapixel cameras (DC Resource - 10/16/03)

The Nikon Coolpix 5400 takes "excellent" photos (especially macro images) and is compatible with a wide range of accessories. On the downside, its menus can be confusing and the LCD screen is small. read original review

Sharp, well-saturated photos except in low-light conditions (Steve's Digicams - 7/21/03)

While the Nikon Coolpix 5400 takes great daytime images, it has difficulty focusing on objects in low light because it lacks an autofocus-assist light (the Canon G5, Sony DSC-V1 and Olympus C-5050 all offer this feature). The preset exposures are very helpful, and the camera's eight-second exposure setting takes great night shots. read original review

An exceptionally capable camera (Imaging Resource - 7/21/03)

Two thumbs-up for the Nikon Coolpix 5400, which delivers good color, "exceptional" macro images, great nighttime performance, and a useful selection of preset scene modes. Some image detail is occasionally lost due to the camera's noise-reduction technology. read original review
