There's a warranty repair program for the 5700 right now
(Rex Skidmore - 9/27/06)I bought this camera new about one year after it was on the cover of every magazine and the dealer pricing was reduced. Since buying it, I have learned to use this camera properly by reading at dpreview dot com.
Because the lens on the CP5700 extends when powered on, many people have broken the focus gears when the camera turns on inside a camera bag. It cost me $120 or so to have it repaired. I then bought the UR-E8 adaptor and leave it on the camera.
Some photogs use a laser pointer to help in very low light shooting situations. I've found that this camera out-performs others in low light.
There is a known issue with the sony-made CCD that causes extremely distorted or black images. This is being repaired for free, including cameras that are out of warranty. Search the Nikon website for the proper form and instructions to send in the camera.
Mine was returned to me after one week at the in-state repair facility. THIS is a rare occurrence of corporate responsibility, and Nikon really should be recognized for doing the right thing. Thank you to Nikon.
