My Coolpix 5700 won't power up, except blank light-up on small top edge display.

I have a Nikon CoolPix 5700 that will not power up. It has a charged and working battery and when the power switch is activated, the small display on top of the camera lights up but does not display. There is no other sign of power in the camera. Is this a known issue with this camera or do I just send it to Nikon or sell it for parts. Thanks. Yes, I'm a newbie here.

So the On button says it's On but you're not getting an image on the LCD? Probably needs repairs, but maybe we can narrow it down first. Have you shot photos with it, and if so can you view them if you put the camera into Playback mode, or is it just not working at all?

I'm not getting any image or playback at all. Just the white light on the top square near the power switch. I just wondered if there is some sort of "reset" or ? Thank you for your reply, btw.

I can't think of anything that might cause this; if you can get into the menus, you can try going into the Shooting menu and choosing Reset. You'll have to do it for whatever User profile you're using, or profile(s) if you have more than one saved.

If you can't access/ see menus, then I think you're going to have to call for repairs on this one.

It sounds like repair time, then. I can take it to a camera shop here in Minneapolis area. I don't know if Nikon repairs or if it is a good system. Thanks again for the help. Jim

If you have a repair shop that you know you can go to, definitely go for it; but it may help to go ahead and call Nikon's tech support before you take it in. They might be able to help pinpoint the problem even if you choose to go somewhere else if it needs repairs.
