solution with autofocus does not work
( - 7/7/05)it's too easy to say "It's a poor workman who blames his tools" because now I have the two sides of the story. My 7600's autofocus simply did not function properly, unless there was a lot of light. I tried everything, nothing worked; it's simple as that. So I sent it back to Nikon here in Switzerland. They (I am quoting the invoice) : "changed CP-1 Print, fine tuned the focusing, controlled and fine tuned DTC, updated the software, and did a general control of the camera". All this of course for free, which is fair for a new, unsatisfactory camera. Now the camera focuses properly, most of the times (I compare pictures : a totally different result). I still get a number of blurred pictures, and the AF still does not work at all in extended digital zoom. But then, this extended digital zoom did not function at all before <g>. Taking pictures and storing them on the memory still takes an awful lot of time : 4 secs just to shoot. This means you cannot shoot anything that moves. I suspect the AF still does not function if the subject moves anyway. To summarize : Nikon has repaired/improved my camera significantly, but the result is still average and not what is traditionally expected from Nikon.
