Why do I keep getting a message that the batteries are drained, even with fresh batteries?

Even with fresh batteries, I keep getting a message that the "accumulateur est decharge" (the batteries are drained). Then the camera shuts itself off. Help!

Well, are you using the right batteries? Often undercharged or depleted batteries can easily affect camera performance. Batteries with a higher mAh - like around 2500mAh satisfy the higher power requirements of your camera and should be your first choice. At the very least, try alkalines. But if you've bought them in bulk, you may be victim of batteries that have simply died on the shelf. I recommend using high energy batteries designed for digital photography. Varta is a good brand. They are usually sold in camera shops, are long lasting (because they are sold in small quantities) put out alot of energy.

Yes I have the same problem with mine even when you change the menu options for battery type have tried recharchables other than nikon and well known brands of batteries. However there are a lot of dead or half charged batteries on your supermarket shelf but I have found them to be the lesser name brands
