I need a good digital camera WITHOUT movie mode.

My son needs a camera that cannot take movies. We'd prefer a digital camera, but all that we've seen have movie capabilities. Are we out of luck trying to find a digital camera without movie mode?

Hi Kay,

As far as I know, these days the only cameras without video modes are digital SLRs, which are quite expensive and advanced compared to your average point-and-shoot.

Might I ask why he needs such a camera?

-Ben

I am looking for a camera without a movie mode also. If anyone knows where I can find one that is not an expensive SLR, please let me know.

My son is going on a mission for our church and they don't want him to look or act like a tourist so no big, expensive cameras. They also don't want him to spend time taking/making movies.

I was afraid I'd get an answer like Ben's. I've been trying to find one on my own and turned to you for help. I may be out of luck. I'm still hoping for a different answer.

Well, most digital cameras aren't big or expensive these days, even though they include movie modes. It's quite easy to never access the movie modes, as well, so as long as your son has a bit of self-control, I don't really see it being an issue. :] That said, I'm sure you understand the intricacies of the situation much better than I do.
