looking for a good camera for taking pictures at ground level

I take pictues of horses feet for my job. I would like to look down at the lcd screen so I don't have to lay on the ground.

Hi there,
The Canon A640 is actually a really good choice for this, because the LCD is variable and rotates up and down, so you could basically set the camera on the ground and still have the LCD tilted up towards you. It's also a really good all-around camera in terms of image quality and ease of use. Depending on what other criteria you're looking for in your camera, there are a few others that offer different types of swivels; for example, the Nikon Coolpix S10 has a swiveling body with an LCD that is totally separated, allowing for even more contortions.

I would personally recommend the A640 as best all-around for general use.

Thanks for the quick response. I assume that the LCD opens out to the side and I suppose that would be ok except I am a little worried that it might not be strong enough to take the abuse that sometimes happens working around horses feet. Although I haven't had my camera stepped on yet so I guess that wouldn't really be a problem. I was looking for one that had the LCD on the top of the camera but I'm not holding my breath. I am using a Kodak Easy Share right now and it works fine except I have to lay on the ground to take the pictures plus when I set the camera on the ground dirt can get in the open connection port that it uses to plug into the Easy Printer Docking Station. I'm going to check out that Canon A640. Thanks a lot.

No problem. As far as I know, you won't find anything with the LCD on the top, although thinking about it that is a fantastic idea, and with all the swiveling that is becoming popular at the moment (particularly that Nikon I linked to above), I wonder if such a thing isn't very far off. In terms of durability, I don't really know of a camera that would be durable enough to withstand abuse from horses... that sounds awfully hardcore. =)

But the good news is that the Canon A640 does not have the problem that some of the Canon Elphs have, which is a horribly fragile LCD screen. I'm not sure how durable the swivel screen is, but (at least as far as I have heard) it is not something that is particularly prone to breakage. Good luck!
