when i turn on my nikon coolpix s1 camera all i see is a white screen whats wrong?

it almost looks like when you point a camera at a computer screen but it's like that no matter where i point it. There has been no damage done to the camera whatsoever. I can view the pictures but that's all i also tryed charging it more and that didn't work either. After i veiw the pictures and go back to the main screen where i would take a picture the screen is black

Since there is no firmware update, I would effect a complete camera reset. This is usually done through the setup menu and may be as easy as removing your batteries, waiting a minute and then putting them back in. After setting the time and date, all should be okay. Sometimes your firmware may not load properly after the camera reaches a certain age. Resetting it back to factory defaults will remedy this.

If not, again, due to it's relative age, you may need to have it serviced. Be advised, however, that if it's out of warranty, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

Has it been dropped recently?

That may not be how you reset the camera, mind you. Check your manual for the proper procedure.

Before you do, go to Nikon's website and look for firmware updates and service advisories. There may be a firmware fix that handles it or there may be a service advisory which addresses a potential defect. If there is one, Nikon will probably offer to repair for free. Also, if you paid for with credit card, you may have an extended warranty which could fix it. Talk to your credit card company to see if they offer that benefit.

Good luck.
