Did your attempts to get it replaced work?

It happened to me completely out of the blue today. I was shooting a video with it, finished, turned it off and when I turned it back on, I got the Black Screen of Death.

First thing I would do is reset the camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may easily be that the firmware corrupted while loading. Resetting the camera will restore the factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Nikon's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them. I'd also take your card and plug it into a USB memory card reader and get any pictures or video off your memory card. Then reformat the card.
