b.w is a popular feature these days in point and shoot cameras, but what they don't tell you is that the picture is taken in color and then the color is stripped from the picture as the image is processed. It's got grayscale, sure, but you miss all those deep, rich blacks and shadows and the contrast that makes a b/w image to compelling. And the only way to get that is use software to tweak the image. Your better off shooting your pictures in color and then using a photo editor like Adobe Light Room to turn it into a contrasty black and white image.
