Assuming that your camera is taking well focused pictures, I suspect the noise is the focus motor. With auto focus as you move the camera around it constantly adjusts light exposure and focus causing a (usually) faint whirring and buzzy noise that may be quite irregular. If the noise is really loud and/or the pictures are not turning out right, then it needs to be returned for exchange.
