Frankly, the MP count isn't the issue here. The bottom line is that video on a point and shoot digital camera is more marketing than actual quality. The thing is, you're processing the video signal through the same chip as a digital still camera. That's a jack of all trades, master of none situation. 14 GB may sound attractive for video, but most encode in motion JPEG which is a very poor video encoder. H.264 is a much better alternative, if available. Secondly, audio quality of video on a point and shoot isn't really that great because it uses cheap omnidirectional microphones to capture the audio. This records a lot more ambient noise.

In the end, you have a video clip which is good for the web, but not much else.

If video is your hot button feature, you'd be better off looking for a camcorder which saves digital stills to a separate SD card. Many are up to 6 MP now, which gives good quality images for printing.

Thanks,
Thanks for the great answer. What I notice is that the resolution on my digital video camera is flat and "video looking"while my simple point and shoot gives a richer more film like quality on playback. I am assuming that this is due to the 30fps recording method of the point and shoot. I need an inexpensive high quality compact 24-30fps camcorder or point and shoot. I prefer the digital SLRs that shoot video over many of the HD camcorders due to the film-like quality that they produce. Any explanation or comments?

Well, there's only a handful of digital SLRs shooting HD video at the moment, but their chief advantage is depth of field and the ability to rack focus. If you've seen any of the short videos from photographers using the Canon D5 Mk. II, you can see what stunning video images they create that are definitely "silver screen" quality.
